With the festive period rapidly approaching, the worry for me isn’t “what do I get Aunty Pat and Uncle Frank” but what do I do if I don’t like the gifts I receive?!
Of course it could be said I’m just “ungrateful and selfish” but you really have to think about this properly. My tastes aren’t the same as everyone else’s, and why should they be. Surely my dad’s next door neighbour would rather see be happy receiving the gift I wanted as opposed to me pretending to like the latest Gillette set from Boots. It works both ways, if people could just tell me what they wanted for Christmas/birthdays/
For years people have registered for wedding gifts – the last thing a newlywed couple needs is 3 George Foreman grills and another Breville toasty machine. I love a good ham and cheese toasty but more than one is just unnecessary, and a waste of money quite frankly. So people register the gifts they want, or fractions of the gifts as some can be more expensive than others so they get what they need and they giver knows the selected gift is what the couple want.
I joked to my mother I would start doing this at Christmas because I found asking for money uncouth and cheap. She of course said to me I was merely being a diva and should be grateful for what was given. (Remember the earlier Gillette set comment for why I knew she was wrong!)
Fancy Giving is a website that sets my heart alight for the festive season (and my January birthday)… The user selects the desired gifts for the world to see, all you have to do is enter the email address of those you want to see your wish list and they can then claim them and buy them (all of the gifts come with a direct link to where they can be bought!) This genius idea works both ways of course, you can see what your work colleagues like so you don’t have to get them the generic bottle of plonk when you pull their name out of the hat in the office Secret Santa.I add things to my “wish” list and I can give gift cards to friends so that we’re all happy! A win win situation in my eyes. You can create a “universal wishlist” which means you can re-wish specific wishes and you can create an individual wishlist where you can save any products that you have found from anywhere online, that’s right, ANYWHERE! Imagine Pinterest, Facebook and Amazon all combined and you have Fancy Giving!
You can even drop hints to your partner with the latest 77 Diamonds jewellery so you won’t be disappointed this Christmas (and boys you can take a sneak peak at your girls wish list so you’re not left with an angry lady next month!)
