At Seventy Seven Diamonds, we like to keep up to date with things that shine and sparkle. So when we were told about a planet that was covered in diamonds our ears pricked up!
This carbon planet is called “55 Cancri e” and is in the constellation of Cancer surrounding a sun-like star and is spinning on its axis that a full year is only 18 hours!
The planet is 8 times greater in mass than Earth with a radius that is twice as big. As well as being larger, it is also hotter with a surfance temperate of 1,648 degrees centigrade!
Chief research from Yale university, Nikku Madhusudhan,”The surface of this planet is likely covered in graphite and diamond rather than water and granite,”.
Forbes magazine have stated that if available for sale, diamonds of that mass would be $26.9 nonillion (that’s 26.9 followed by 30 zeros)!
